Fun book...

I bought two books for Columbus Day for my 5 year old. I really love this one however it is bit advanced for us right now. It has lots of captions and very busy. It's very cute and will be fun to use in a year or two! I am glad I got it but would recommend it for a 6-8 year old. We will definitely get good use out of it in the future!

Early Explorerations with a Sense of Humor

This book is educational in spite of its humorous illustrations and characters' side comments. Written from an elementary child's perspective, the book contains easy to read, picture-laden sections on topics such as, Why Do You Want to Explore, Which Way Would You Steer, Can You Cope On Board, and Would It All Be Worthwhile? A Glossary and Index make this book a great supplemental resource in the classroom or a fun read for a child who just wants to learn about Columbus. Bits of historical trivia not found in textbooks create enrichment. Content parallels that of a 5th grade text with a simpler reading level.

Great Book!

This book really got my son,7, interested in History. He remembers about every detail from it. The character animations are great! I recommend these books especially for probably 7 -10 yr old boys. I think they could get the most out of them.

Really interesting

Talks in depth about mating on each of the seven planes of consciousness, among other interesting topics. The topic is the same as the first chapter of The Perfect Matrimony by Samael Aun Weor. But since this is an entire book rather than a single chapter, it goes into much more detail and renders the subject much more understandable.

If You're into Esoterica, Read this Book.

If your not the type of person who generally agrees with esoteric/occultic thought, then you may take issue with some of what is presented in this book... but, then again, if you already have qualms with esoterica, why are you reading anything by Dion Fortune?

A lot of what is written in this book - I feel - must be taken in conjunction with the perspective of the author: the time period, where she comes from, and her status within that society. For example, I would question her opinion on homosexuality (even though I'm not a homosexual), given the pluralistic values of our current culture in comparison to the values of her time. None-the-less, she makes an excellent argument for her position: each chapter gradually building upon the previous chapters successively until the breadth of material becomes clear. Questions I had in the beginning and middle of the book were addressed in later chapters, leaving no holes by the conclusion.

I would, though, especially recommend that the reader take their time on the chapter regarding the 7 planes. Having those clear in your mind will make the rest of the book much easier to comprehend.

Otherwise, I agree with the other reviewers. I thoroughly appreciated how this book made a consideration of the energetic principles involved in how human being relate to one another (as opposed to providing a "thou shalt/shalt not" list of behavior based on some doctrine that doesn't explain the WHY of the preference/avoidance). This is one of those books which, personality being accepting to a different perspective, all youths should read as a "coming of age" into their adulthood (and the sexual liberty that comes with it). It would aid to dodge a lot of unhealthy relationships.

I only gave this book 4 stars based upon my ability to test its veracity against an internal sympathy/harmony. (I would have been very happy to give it a 4.5 if that were an option). Yet, this may be simply a symptom of a lack of understanding, experience and/or ability to comprehend on my part.

In any case, it's a relatively inexpensive book and a quick read (my wife and I read it together in the course of an afternoon), so there's really nothing to lose by purchasing & reading this book.

Indispensable work on Divine Marriage

As with most of Dion Fortune's works (said only because I haven't yet read them all), this piece is indispensable for anyone wanting to understand the world around them. Yes, it is about marriage -- and not only on the physical plane; that is what makes it so potent, because Fortune shows why natural marriages are as they are FROM SPIRITUAL CAUSES. But because all of creation is built up from this basic marriage of two divine halves, the book offers much to consider in contemplating any subject.
The nice thing here, too, is that despite the depths that Fortune can reach in certain works, she tries to keep this one simple enough for even beginning readers. By the end she may really be pushing them ... but by then, they've been well prepared.
This is a must-have for any student of the esoteric.

Designed in the 1950s, the US Marines' M50 Ontos and the US Army's M56 Scorpion were both intended to be fast, light, air-droppable tank-killers for the Cold War battlefield--an answer to the cumbersome and ineffective World War II-vintage tanks that had taken to the battlefield during the Korean War. Although they shared the aim of bringing light, mobile, and lethal antitank firepower to the infantry, the two vehicles varied wildly in design to cater for their unique mission demands. They first saw service in the Lebanon intervention of 1958 but it was in the Vietnam War that they made their name, with the M50 Ontos seeing intense combat action in the 1968 Battle of Hue.

Detailed illustrations and expert analysis provide the reader with a comprehensive history of these deadly antitank vehicles, from early development through to their combat history and the eventual disbandment of the Marine Corps' last antitank battalion with M50A1s in 1971.

About the Author

Kenneth W. Estes served in the US Marine Corps until 1993. He taught History at Duke University and the US Naval Academy. He was made an Honorary Legionnaire in the Spanish Legion in 1992.

Henry Morshead is a design consultant in the European automotive and aerospace sectors. A former officer in the Royal Engineers, and an illustrator, he is interested in the design and use of military vehicles.

Johnny Shumate is a freelance illustrator living in Nashville, Tennessee. He began his career in 1987.

M50 Ontos and M56 Scorpian

The M50 Ontos (Greek for 'thing') has a cult following with armor buffs. It's so ugly, awkward and unusual, it begs attention. Created during the tank crisis of the Korean War, it was designed quickly, ran into usual problems with development, entering service in 1956. About 300 were made and its combat service was, as with many designs, for a role it was never intended. The M50 was popular with Marines in Vietnam for anti personnel use. Firing six rounds of 106 mm flechettes into attacking infantry is effective. I've been inside these - they are tiny!!

The M56 looks more conventional and is a flashback to WW2 early tank destroyers - small chassis vehicles to transport an anti tank gun. Developed around the same time as the Ontos, it too served more for infantry support in Vietnam rather than anti-tank. Nevertheless, the drawbacks of both vehicles were obvious from the start - too light to protect the crew and difficulty reloading doomed the vehicle to a footnote in armor history.

Author Ken Estes, photos from Ontos affictionato Don Moriarty, illustrators Henry Morshead and Johnny Shumate provide some fine drawings to help the reader clearly see the decisions that led to the design and fielding of both of these armored vehicles. The book has clear (albeit very small) black & white photos, line drawings and cut-aways. As with all New Vanguard books, the trade off is smaller size, compact narratives but more affordable than other sources.

Both vehicles are important to study since current demands exist to this day to fill the void with light but powerful weapons to assist the infantry. Recommended for armor buffs or modelers who want an excellent read of these mostly forgotten vehicles.

About the Author

Peter Greenlaw is a renowned health and wellness expert, researcher and author of several books including "TDOS Syndrome and Solutions" and "Why Diets are Failing Us." He is the host of The New Health Conversation television series on PBS that features some of the world's leading health scientists, physicians and researchers. Peter has appeared on numerous radio and television shows including Fox and ABC. He lives with his wife and two sons in Denver, Colorado.

Marco Ruggiero is a world renowned medical doctor and researcher. He holds a PhD. in Molecular Biology and is a former professor in Molecular Biology at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Biomedical Sciences at the University of Firenze, Italy. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles. He lives with his wife in Phoenix, Arizona and has two children.

Use your Brains!

I am only 22 and do not truly think about boosting my immune system or different ways to strengthening my body. At this time in my life, I just want to go, go, go! When I began reading this book, though, I realized that it is time to take it into account to taking care of it more now than ever.

I enjoyed the fact that Peter Greenlaw shared his personal battle with Parkinson's Disease. My grandfather and grandmother both battle it on a daily basis, but Mr. Greenlaw proves that taking your body helps in the battle. I learned in this book that a way to do this, is to carefully plan and learn how to listen to your "three brains" which include: your gut, your head, and a microbiome. The author carefully lays out various ways for us to prepare one's body as well as to learn how to listen to it. I began to take notes and am beginning to apply them to my life.

The Microbiome -- Who Knew??

A newly discovered organ gone undetected for 3000 years-- how does this happen? Well, to say our bodies and how they work are quite 'Miraculous' is nothing short of an understatement! This fascinating book is forwarded by none of than Dr. John Gray of 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' fame and he is here to corroborate that there is more to making relationships work than improved communication-- how about Optimum Brain Function??

Yes, and the guiding raison d'etre is the gut microflora which, it turns out, is the complex organ responsible for the development & functioning of all your other organs & systems. Good news to know! This microbiome is not located just in our gut, however, it is located all over the body and is deeply responsible for behavior, intellect... obviously inherently critical to our functioning as human 'machine-animals'.

What 'Your Third Brain' does is distills this into sizable quotients that describe for us what the first, second and third brains are and do; we're given the results of published studies to date and patient reactions-- keep in mind: this is Very New stuff. This was only discovered in 2010, and researchers at universities in Japan have only Just published results for treating people along these lines with Chronic Fatigue and infections that fully supports the information in This Very Book!

Incredible stuff! This is on the cutting edge of our health today-- the authors herein explain for use the foods for the various brains, as well as outlining the 'Microbiome Protocol and Regimen', while walking us through different Wonder Molecules, Ultrasound on that 'Third Brain', & the Future of Immunotherapy.

Get this book, whatever you do -- I'm so glad I did. I finally feel like I've gotten out ahead of the curve, in front of what doctor's typically 'feel safe' telling patients about new trends. I feel empowered by this and deeply grateful to the authors, and researchers around the world doing work in this area and supporting it.

I would love to order this book because I am aware of ...

I would love to order this book because I am aware of the brilliant research that Dr. Marco Ruggiero and others are doing with GC-MAF to achieve break-through treatments for cancer, autism, ME, CFS, MS, ALS, etc. I am hoping this will be a summary and continuation of the same path of knowledge.

I am not sure why this paperback is not available anywhere other than Amazon for $473, but as soon as I can get my hands on a copy I will update this review.

It is funny that the glossy summary mentions that "researchers discovered a new organ that had gone undetected for more than 3,000 years in Human Anatomy". In Psalm 90 (or 91) it is written: "... There shall no evil come to thee: nor shall the scourge come near thy dwelling. [11] For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways. [12] In their hands they shall bear thee up: lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." Maybe King David knew more about the micro-biome that we give him credit for?
